If you’re like us, you haven’t relaxed for the past two years. The election of Donald Trump and a GOP-controlled Congress brought unprecedented attacks upon Planned Parenthood and reproductive freedom. With the extraordinary support of people like you, Planned Parenthood has survived existential threats including multiple defunding attempts and attempts to repeal the ACA. And with so much at stake during the midterm elections, you marched -- you voted -- and we won!
In California, Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley (PP Advocates) helped flip five Congressional seats across the state, electing future Planned Parenthood champions to the House of Representatives. At the state and local levels, we helped elect passionate candidates who have vowed to protect reproductive freedom, from Governor-elect Gavin Newson to Altadena Library Board Trustee Katie Clark. With allies like you by our side, we’ve built a political movement in the San Gabriel Valley that protects the people and communities who rely on Planned Parenthood at all levels of government. Together, we rode a big pink wave to victory.
We are energized by this November’s results, but we can’t let up. PPAPSGV has ambitious plans from now through 2020. We will work to ensure a political environment that supports Planned Parenthood’s work throughout the San Gabriel Valley and across the country. And we will secure permanent fixes to the California state budget to sustainably fund Planned Parenthood services – no matter what.
