Statewide Effort Kicks off This Week with New Website and Mobile Billboards in Key Turnout Districts
As election season gets into full swing ahead of the November 5 General Election, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) is working to stop a national abortion ban through a new direct voter outreach and education campaign, “My Body, My Vote.” The new initiative, which aims to empower California voters to use their voting power to elect pro-abortion candidates up and down the ballot and protect reproductive freedom in California, includes a new website, as well as mobile billboards and direct mail delivering key information in critical areas.
“Abortion access is under attack, even in California. We need to protect our freedom to control our own bodies and make our own health care decisions,” said Jodi Hicks, President/CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California. “As abortion and reproductive health care continue to be endlessly attacked, Californians must elect and re-elect members who unapologetically fight for access to abortion and sexual and reproductive health care.”
The “My Body, My Vote” campaign launches with a new website – www.voteabortionca.com - that includes information for voter registration and links to voters guides with Planned Parenthood endorsed candidates. PPAC is billing the website as the “ultimate guide to voting abortion 2024.” Mobile billboards also began running in key areas around the state including Orange County, Palm Desert/Riverside County, and the Central Valley this week driving voters to learn more about pro-abortion candidates in their area. Additional campaign activities will include direct voter contact through targeted digital and social campaigns, text banks, and postcards.
Since the Dobbs decision, California has led the country in protecting and expanding abortion access– including enshrining the constitutional right to abortion in the state’s constitution. However, the state would not be immune to a national abortion ban. With 22 states facing near or total abortion bans, we know, if elected, anti-abortion lawmakers will charge full-steam to impose a nationwide abortion ban and limit birth control and other sexual and reproductive health care furthering their own anti-abortion agenda over the will of the American people. California has the opportunity to stop this agenda by helping to elect pro-abortion policymakers, including to Congress, where a majority that supports reproductive freedom could help restore, protect and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.
“The road to reproductive freedom runs through us: California voters. Together we can help protect and restore abortion access across the country,” added Hicks.
