A slew of bills have been introduced during the first weeks of session. We are keeping a close eye on a number of key bills.
Abortion ‘Reversal’ (SB 1243) was introduced on Monday morning in the Senate State Affairs committee. This is identical to harmful legislation we saw last year, and we continue to work with legislators to make sure they are aware that this “bill that’s not a thing” should not be moved forward. We are keeping our eyes and ears open for any more potential anti-choice legislation.
We are still continuing to push legislators to improve access to health care instead of restricting it. We have garnered support on both sides of the aisle on our 12 Months of Birth Control bill and are excited for a print hearing on Wednesday Feb. 7th..
Another proactive bill that would update Idaho’s sex ed laws (HB 414) has unfortunately hit some snags since it was introduced last year. The Education Committee has received a lot of backlash from very conservative groups.
Idaho is also getting some federal attention for its extreme attacks on health care. Congressional Democrats, including Washington’s Patty Murray, sent a letter to HHS Secretary Alex Azar and CMS Administrator Seema Verma questioning the legality of Idaho’s plan to allow insurers to sell plans that do not comply with the ACA.
