FRANKFORT, KY — The Planned Parenthood community mourns the loss of lives in the violent shooting in Louisville early this morning.

The following statement was released today and can be attributed to Tamarra Wieder, Kentucky State Director for Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates (PPAA-KY):

“Once again our state reels from a senseless act of gun violence. Our hearts are with the people of Louisville, and all those who have lost friends and family members to this growing epidemic. Whether it is a mass shooting, intimate partner violence or brutal policing, gun violence is a public health epidemic that will continue to threaten the health and safety of our communities if our elected leaders remain on the sidelines.

“Gun violence is now the number one cause of child death in America. Inaction by our lawmakers is an insult to the memory of those we mourn and is  arguably complicit in this rapidly growing cause of death. The time to act is overdue. Planned Parenthood is committed to fighting alongside our partners and leading advocates until all people can live in a world free of gun violence.”
