This legislative session we look forward to supporting proactive legislation to increase access to birth control and protect our LGBTQ+ family and friends. We are prepared to stand strong in the face of attacks on our health and rights.

6 Months of Birth Control

We all deserve affordable and accessible birth control that works for us, regardless of our income or insurance carrier. Consistent access to birth control gives people the ability to control when and if they have children, giving them more career and education opportunities, encouraging healthier pregnancies, and making them less likely to depend on government programs. But for women who lack access to transportation, move frequently, or struggle to balance work and family, monthly trips to the pharmacy make perfect use challenging. The legislature should ensure that all people have consistent and reliable access to contraception by requiring private insurance to cover a six month supply of birth control at a time.

Expand Gender Marker Options on Birth Certificates

Last year the legislature failed to approve Department of Health and Welfare rulemaking allowing individuals to change the gender marker on their birth certificate. This important step would give transgender and non-binary Idahoans access to documents that correctly reflect their gender and gender identity, which in turn will improve access to health and social services. The legislature should approve this rule, without any further attempts to attack LGBTQ Idahoans by adding unnecessary barriers to accessing this service.
