Oppose Indiana SB 12 - Don’t Ban Our Books!
Call 1-202-816-6461 or use the form on this page to call Indiana’s Chair of the House Committee on Education and express your opposition to SB 12.
SB 12 uses intentionally ambiguous language to advocate for censorship of "material harmful to minors" in elementary schools, secondary schools, and non-college/university libraries. The goal of this bill is to ban materials specifically relating to sex education, LGBT+ content, and content relating to issues that affect BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) folks.
The ambiguity in this bill would leave schools, educators, and librarians not only vulnerable to lawsuits from any parties who disagree with materials, but also being charged with felonies for allowing these materials to be available.
This bill is a threat to students and educators alike. Ask the Chair of the House Committee on Education not to hear SB 12 in committee.
