MoLeg Weekly Wrap-Up
The Missouri Legislature ended its 2017 session on Friday, one week after voting to block access to preventive health care for thousands of low-income Missourians. Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri successfully worked to stop 40 anti-sexual and -reproductive health bills.
In addition to playing a lot of defense, Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri supported proactive measures to advance sexual and reproductive rights and health, and we worked in coalition to protect voting rights, LGBTQIA rights, and workers’ rights.
Thanks to our supporters, Planned Parenthood showed up in the Capitol, online, and across Missouri. More than 250 supporters came to Jefferson City to make their voices heard at six lobby days. We delivered more than 12,000 petitions and sent more than 3,300 letters to lawmakers. More than 30 advocates shared their stories and professional expertise while testifying in opposition to harmful legislation at 14 hearings this year in Jefferson City — and they made a difference.

Tell Gov. Greitens: Missourians Need Access to Family Planning
Governor Greitens pledged to bring a new approach to Jefferson City — now he has a chance to make good on that promise. Urge him to reject the politically motivated effort to block access to family planning services by vetoing House budget bills 10 and 11.
By telling thousands of low-income patients that they cannot go to the health care provider of their choice, the Missouri Legislature is leaving them with nowhere to go for birth control and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment. That’s unacceptable.
Please urge Gov. Greitens to stand up for the thousands of Missourians who rely on the family planning program for health care and reject these fiscally irresponsible budget bills.

Last Wednesday, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes partnered with local progressive groups to hold a rally outside Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s (R-MO 4) Columbia office in response to her recent vote in favor of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The AHCA could result in over 24 million people losing their health insurance coverage and could deny patients access to Planned Parenthood health centers. More than 65 Planned Parenthood supporters turned out to show their outrage at Rep. Hartzler’s vote and demand accountability.
Recap: Springfield “Die-In”
Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri teamed up with Springfield Indivisible and Faith Voices of Southwest Missouri for a “die-in” outside of Rep. Billy Long’s (R-MO 7) office on Wednesday. The die-in represented people who could die from lack of access to health care under the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which Rep. Long supports.
