ST. LOUIS — Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri released the following statement celebrating the successful collection of enough signatures to qualify abortion rights amendment on the ballot:
Statement from Richard Muniz, interim president and CEO, Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri:
"Missourians want and deserve the freedom to make their own decisions about pregnancy and abortion with their health care providers — without politicians jamming themselves into the exam room. After years of Jefferson City politicians doing everything they can to restrict and then ban abortion entirely, voters statewide will have the opportunity to make their voices heard later this year when they vote to protect access to reproductive health care, including abortion.
"As we have witnessed around the country, abortion bans are a clear and present threat to everyone’s health and well-being — including the current total abortion ban in Missouri. But the people are fighting back. Missouri is one of nearly a dozen states with abortion on the ballot this election cycle. We understand the urgency of the current situation, and we are grateful to our coalition partners and the hundreds of thousands of voters throughout Missouri who have already joined. We applaud their tireless work to reach this moment, and we look forward to restoring meaningful and lasting abortion access for Missourians.”
