Planned Parenthood Applauds Monumental Pro-Abortion Bill to Protect Patients & Providers

A statement from Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri

The Illinois General Assembly passed a monumental pro-abortion bill that will protect and expand abortion rights and access including expanding provider capacity by allowing nurse practitioners and physician assistants to provide procedural abortion care. 

Below is our statement in response to this critical milestone in our work to meet the demand for abortion care in Illinois and across the country in a post-Roe era. 

Statement from Yamelsie Rodríguez, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLRSWMO) following final passage of IL House Bill 4664:

“We commend the General Assembly’s urgency and leadership to listen to providers and advocates and act on the public health crisis unfolding in this post-Roe era. PPSLRSWMO looks forward to Governor Pritzker signing the bill into law and operationalizing these bold new policies, which will bring urgent and necessary relief to the abortion care system in Illinois.”
