Voter Eligibility

In order to register you must be:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be 18 years old by December 31st of the year in which you register. You must be 18 by Election Day in order to vote that year. You may pre-register at 16 or 17, but cannot vote until you are 18.
  • Be a New York State resident (includes students from other states who are in New York for college)
  • Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction (unless parole pardoned or restored rights of citizenship)
