Attorney General Candidates

Kwame Raoul (D)

Kwame is a strong ally for women, championing  equal pay, reproductive freedom,  and protection from sexual harassment in the workplace.

Donald Trump has put so many rights and protections on the line, including the right to access abortion safely and legally, with this nomination. I will not stand by and allow my daughter to have fewer rights than my generation.

— Kwame Raoul

Kwame Raoul understands that when it comes to the most important decisions in life, such as whether and when to become a parent, that  a woman is able to consider all the options available to her.

As a state senator, Kwame Raoul stood firm in opposing legislation that would restrict a woman’s right to comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion.

Erika Harold (R)

Her views on reproductive health are even too extreme for her own party.

“I would not discriminate (against the fetus) based on the circumstance of conception.”

— Erika Harold

Erika Harold has been trying to avoid talking about certain issues by giving a canned response - "if elected Attorney General, I will follow the law." Her record on reproductive health does not instill confidence in those of us who expect the Attorney General to defend othe people's rights and not impose  personal beliefs on their constituents.

Why We Don't Support Erika Harold

Erika Harold on the Issues:

Sex Education

Erika Harold spent the beginning of her career as a spokesperson for Project Reality, an organization committed to pushing abstinence-only programs. During this time, there were several sex education bills introduced in the Illinois General Assembly. Project Reality and Erika Harold opposed changes to Illinois sex education law. Harold personally lobbied at state capitol urging legislators to opposed these bills.

Because Project Reality and other types of abstinence-only-until-marriage programs were demonstrated to be inaccurate, ineffective, and potentially harmful to youth, in 2003, Illinois dropped the Project Reality line item in its FY2004 budget and stopped directing funding to abstinence-only-until-marriage programs.

Health Care Access
  • Erika Harold holds extreme views when it comes to a woman’s personal decision about abortion. Harold is staunchly opposed to abortion – even in cases of rape and incest
  • Erika Harold thinks bosses, not women, should make decisions about birth control.
  • Said she would vote to repeal the ACA and take healthcare away from families who rely on coverage for preexisting conditions and more.
