What is the Reproductive Health Act?

The Reproductive Health Act recognizes that providing abortion is health care, not criminal activity. The bill repeals Illinois’ outdated abortion law so that the state treats abortion care like all health care, with regulations that reflect current medical standards.

With a new anti-Roe majority on the U.S. Supreme Court and politicians in Washington, D.C. trying to impose new restrictions on access to abortion and contraception, our fundamental reproductive rights are under attack. It’s time for Illinois to fix the current abortion law and protect our health and rights. Illinois’ decades-old abortion laws are outdated, have been largely blocked by courts, and they’re out of step with modern medicine.

The Reproductive Health Act is an opportunity for Illinois to lead the Midwest, and the nation, on protecting reproductive rights.

  • Treat reproductive health like other health care and recognize that abortion is not a crime.

  • End politicians’ interference with an individual’s privatereproductive health care decisions.

  • Strengthen and protect access to the full range of reproductive health care.
