Keep Illinois a Haven for Reproductive Rights

Protect our champions in the Illinois General Assembly.

Our Wins in 2020

The historic 2020 election brought huge victories for reproductive health and rights in Illinois. With your support, PPIA PAC:

  • Gained a pro-choice seat in the Illinois House and the Illinois Senate;
  • Re-elected State Sen. David Koehler, who beat an anti-choice candidate aiming to ban abortion in Illinois;
  • Flipped the Illinois 25th Senate district, electing State Sen. Karina Villa;
  • Re-elected State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, defeating a national anti-abortion movement leader; and
  • Elected State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, beating an incumbent who wanted to repeal the Reproductive Health Act.

Challenges in 2021

In 2021, new voter districts will be drawn in Illinois based on data from the U.S. Census. This determines people’s long-term political representation and sets the power dynamic for the next decade — and beyond.

Many Planned Parenthood patients live in historically Black and Latinx districts, and we recognize the importance of electing officials who represent the communities they serve. PPIA PAC is fighting for fair redistricting to ensure traditionally marginalized communities retain their representation in Congress and the Illinois General Assembly.

Preparing for 2022

Did you know that all 177 members of the Illinois General Assembly, as well as the Governor and Attorney General, are up for re-election in 2022?

Due to the 2021 redistricting, pro-Planned Parenthood candidates will need to reach new voters in order to be re-elected. In some cases, districts may become more conservative, and it will be harder for our pro-reproductive health leaders to stay in office.

In recent years, we have seen neighboring states elect dangerously anti-choice legislatures, and we know that anti-abortion extremists are targeting Illinois in 2022. With your support, PPIA PAC will protect the pro-choice majority in Springfield by engaging voters through:

  • Direct voter contact, including direct mail, phone calls, and texting
  • Relational organizing, leveraging our hundreds of volunteers and activists to push our messages to their networks via apps and texting
  • Social media engagement and targeted emails

Together, we will elect leaders who believe health care is a human right and cement Illinois as a haven for reproductive freedom in the Midwest.

Ways to Fundraise

Virtual Happy Hour

Connect with your friends over a virtual happy hour to protect access to reproductive health care and rights, and encourage them to donate what they would have spent going out.

Virtual House Party

Invite your guests to an evening event in the comfort of their homes to hear about the work PPIA PAC is doing with a speaker from the organization.

Virtual Movie Night

Invite your friends to stream a pro-choice/feminist/reproductive rights movie together, and host a video chat afterwards! We suggest: Unpregnant, AKA Jane Doe, or Never Rarely Sometimes Always. Ask that everyone donate the cost of a movie ticket and snacks.

A Physical Challenge

Commit to running, walking, or biking a mile every time someone donates. You can do this with other forms of physical activity as well, like push-ups or sit-ups. Or host an online class for a suggested donation.
