Fair Tax Initiative

[En español]

The Fair Tax Initiative is a statewide, coalition-driven initiative to repair the broken and unfair income tax system that Illinois currently operates under. We need to remove the financial burden placed on working families in Illinois.

Planned Parenthood of Illinois Action supports the Fair Tax Amendment because implementing a fair tax is the fiscally responsible choice for all of Illinois. The Fair Tax aligns with Illinoisian values and Planned Parenthood’s values, so we are standing with working families and supporting the Fair Tax Amendment this November.

Why do we need the Fair Tax?

Under our current tax system, Illinoisians pay a flat income tax. This means that everybody pays the same tax rate, regardless of their income. When we break down those socioeconomic demographics, that means the wealthiest top 1% only pays roughly 7% of their income, while the average, hard working Illinoisian can pay upwards of 13% of their income in state and local taxes.

It’s common sense. Passing a Fair Tax would mean close to 97% of Illinois taxpayers would see some form of tax relief.
