Planned Parenthood Illinois Action partnered with Chicago Abortion Fund, Indigenous Women Rising, and Everthrive Illinois for a series of three virtual conversations about busting abortion stigma, reproductive justice through an Indigenous lens, and the reproductive justice landscape in Illinois.

As more and more states seek to enact abortion restrictions like the Texas ban, learning from the experts in this fieldabortion funds and reproductive justice groups who have been using an access-centered approach to abortion advocacy for years is more important than ever.

We partnered with Chicago Abortion Fund for a workshop on “How to Talk About Abortion," where attendees will learn messaging strategies for how to effectively discuss abortion and abortion access.

The goal of this workshop was to encourage participants to feel confident having open and honest discussions with friends and relatives who may not agree with them, which is important to addressing and eliminating abortion stigma.

We joined Rae Guerra-Lorenzo with Indigenous Women Rising for a workshop focused on "Reproductive Justice Through an Indigenous Lens.”

Participants explored the history of reproductive justice and how it has intersected with colonialism and white supremacy. Guerra-Lorenzo also highlighted Indigenous reproductive justice leaders and practices.

Chinyere “Chi Chi” Okwu, Executive Director of EverThrive Illinois, introduced the work that EverThrive does in employing the Reproductive Justice framework to ensure people from communities most impacted by injustice have the access, resources, health care, and choice to create and sustain healthy families on their own terms.

The conversation highlighted how EverThrive IL partners with communities, builds the capacity of systems, and advances policies to achieve their vision.

Chi Chi also covered what attendees can do to address racial and economic inequity in our health care ecosystem.​
