Nationwide, more than 400 restrictions on abortion have been signed into law since 2011. These laws have decimated access to abortion and driven polarizing inequities. Restrictions on abortion have shuttered clinic doors and left entire swaths of the country without access to abortion, disproportionately impacting those with low incomes, people of color, and those living in rural communities. As we celebrate the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we continue to fight attacks on safe, legal abortion.

Under the Trump-Pence administration and with Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, reproductive health care including access to safe, legal abortion faces its greatest threat.

With Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, and the Trump-Pence administration continuing to attack access to care, state governments are a critical backstop to the further erosion of Roe. That’s why it is more important than ever to protect access to the full range of reproductive health care—including safe, legal abortion—in Minnesota.

For the past two years, you have marched in the streets, flooded town halls, and elected leaders who will champion reproductive health and rights—demanding an end to the Trump-Pence agenda. It is because of support from you—our fiercely dedicated volunteers, donors, and activists—that Minnesota remains a safe-haven for abortion access in the Upper Midwest.

The 2018 midterm elections brought renewed energy to the fight for reproductive health care. This January, Minnesota ushered in a pro-reproductive rights majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives and welcomed Governor Tim Walz, a leader who is committed to protecting health care access and reproductive rights. Now is the time to take the energy and victories from the 2018 midterm elections and turn them into real and tangible policy change in Minnesota.

We must work to expand reproductive health care—including funding for family planning, comprehensive sex education, and contraception coverage. We must also commit to electing Planned Parenthood champions to the Minnesota Senate in 2020 so we can ensure the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion will be protected. Can we count on you to continue to join us as we set the stage for our fight forward to enact laws in Minnesota that protect and expand access to the full range of reproductive health care?
