Like many people, Jasmine depends on prescription medications to keep her healthy. But when she left her job to prepare for medical school, her monthly medical bills became too much to handle. She worried that she might have to quit school if she couldn't find affordable health insurance.

Luckily, Jasmine knew just where to turn. As a former call center agent at Planned Parenthood, she already knew Mary Jo, Planned Parenthood's Lead Navigator.

Mary Jo shepherded Jasmine through the MNsure application process, working with her through paperwork and technical difficulties. The process was sometimes frustrating, but eventually Jasmine's application was approved. She now has comprehensive coverage through Medical Assistance with only small co-pays for medication and doctor's visits.

Jasmine's new insurance has changed the way she approaches her own health care. Since getting covered she's taken preventive care much more seriously, making sure all of her annual check-ups are up-to-date. "I've definitely been more proactive than I was before, even when I had insurance," Jasmine told us. "When you realize how important it is, you don't take it for granted anymore."

Now Jasmine can pursue her dream of helping others heal without having to worry about her own health. "Access to health care is a human right," Jasmine says. "I want to work in a community clinic to help people just like me."
