The Walz-Flanagan administration has revealed its budget for the state of Minnesota and it prioritizes family planning funding for Minnesotans.

Statement from Sarah Stoesz, President, Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Action Fund:

“With today’s budget announcement, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan are delivering on their bold vision of One Minnesota and putting the needs of Minnesota women and families front and center.”

“Their proposed funding for family planning services will help thousands of people in all corners of our state get the critical health care they need, including contraception, STD testing, and cancer screenings. With rising STD rates and persistent rates of unintended pregnancy in Minnesota, we know there are more people who need services and this funding will help Planned Parenthood reach them.”

“We also know that when people can get birth control, they can plan their families, their careers, and their futures. This autonomy strengthens the health of our communities and our state, today and for generations to come. On behalf of the thousands of Minnesotans Planned Parenthood serves, we are so grateful to have such strong champions in the Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.”

BACKGROUND: Minnesota’s Family Planning Special Projects (FPSP)

FPSP is a public health prevention program that provides birth control, cancer screenings, and testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to individuals with low-incomes across the state.  Since 1978, this program has awarded grants to counties, Tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide family planning services in communities statewide. Funding is distributed through a regional formula with a separate competitive award process within each of eight regions.
