This weekend, Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund will be engaged in a Weekend of Action to mobilize voters and ensure that Granite Staters elect reproductive rights champions at all levels who will protect the right to determine what’s best for our own bodies and lives.

During the Weekend of Action, Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund will launch its 2022 election volunteer program, with volunteer phone banks and door-to-door canvassing targeting the state’s southern tier. The grassroots program is focused on flipping the governorship and flipping the Executive Council to a pro-reproductive health majority that will restore public funding for the state’s family planning providers. Four times in the last year, Governor Sununu’s Executive Council has voted to reject contracts for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, Lovering Health Center, and Equality Health Center, dismantling the NH Family Planning Program and jeopardizing essential health care for thousands of low-income and uninsured Granite Staters.

Now is the time for New Hampshire voters to take control and put leaders in office that put the health of Granite Staters above politics. Planned Parenthood Votes is investing in an intensive campaign to re-elect Sen. Maggie Hassan, Rep. Annie Kuster, and Rep. Chris Pappas to Congress. The campaign includes digital and broadcast advertising, paid in-person, phone, and digital canvassing, and a direct mail program reaching 315,000 voters.

Statement from Kayla Montgomery, New Hampshire state director, Planned Parenthood Votes, and state director, Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund:

“New Hampshire is at a clear crossroads, and it’s time to elect leaders who will ensure that abortion, birth control, and comprehensive health care are protected and accessible. Granite Staters need a Governor and Executive Council that will restore critical family planning contracts that were repeatedly rejected by the current Council, a move that has jeopardized access to essential health care for thousands of low-income and uninsured Granite Staters. And they need elected leaders who will stand strong against abortion bans and attacks on our personal freedoms. With fewer than 50 days until Election Day, Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund and our partners will do all that we can to reach as many voters as possible this cycle, because New Hampshire needs champions for reproductive freedom in every office.”

Statement from Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Votes:

“We have said it over and over again — this election is about power and control. Who has the power to control our bodies and our lives. With this Weekend of Action, Planned Parenthood Votes and local Planned Parenthood political and advocacy organizations across the country are ensuring that voters can take control by electing reproductive health care champions, up and down the ballot, who trust us to make our own decisions about our bodies, our lives, and our futures.”

Lawson continued, “During this ‘Take Control’ Weekend of Action, we’re channeling voters’ energy and enthusiasm since Roe’s fall into action and ensuring they show up for reproductive freedom like their lives depend on it — because they do. Who wins in the midterm elections will determine which states protect access to abortion, or if anti-abortion politicians in the Senate will gain the majority and bring a national abortion ban to the floor. The choice on the ballot and the stakes for our freedoms are clear.”

The Weekend of Action is part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ 2022 electoral program, “Take Control,” which represents the groups’ largest ever investment in an electoral cycle. The $50 million program will help elect champions for sexual and reproductive health care and rights, including abortion, up and down the ballot and all across the country. The strategic investments will focus on states positioned to either ban or expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.
