The announcement marks the first time the Action Fund has endorsed in all constitutional office races, and the first time endorsing this early in the cycle

St. Paul, MN - Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund is pleased to announce its endorsement of all the Minnesota constitutional officers for re-election in 2022.

  • Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan
  • Attorney General Keith Ellison
  • Secretary of State Steve Simon
  • State Auditor Julie Blaha

“Minnesota is fortunate to have constitutional officers that are lifelong champions of sexual and reproductive health,” said Tim Stanley, Executive Director of the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund. “Each of these public servants understands that every Minnesotan deserves high quality, inclusive, and comprehensive reproductive health care. The incumbents have been steadfast in their resolve to protect and expand reproductive rights in our state.”

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsement comes as the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to release a decision this summer in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case, which involves a Mississippi law banning abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The case poses one of the biggest threats to Roe v. Wade, the decision that legalized abortion in the U.S., in decades.  Patients are facing the possibility of Minnesota being the only state in the region to offer abortion. While Minnesota has protections to reproductive freedom, anti-abortion politicians regularly introduce abortion bans. Just this week, legislators introduced a Texas-style abortion ban on the first day of session.

“We are endorsing now - earlier than ever before - because the stakes have never been higher,” said Stanley.  “Minnesotans value their reproductive freedom, and that includes the right to start a family and the right to an abortion. We want to be very clear that our reproductive freedom is on the ballot this November, and we will be working hard to make sure champions for reproductive health care stay in office.”

Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action fund also plans to endorse in Minnesota legislative races later this spring. The group works to inspire and engage citizens to take up the cause of reproductive health and rights through education, electoral activity, grassroot organizing, and legislative advocacy.

In 2020, Planned Parenthood of Minnesota Political Action Fund ran one of the largest electoral programs in the state, including more than $400,000 in digital advertising and more than $200,000 in TV advertising. Staff and volunteers also launched a new technology to connect with friends and family about voting during the pandemic. These strategies spurred 675,000 contacts with voters by phone and text — a 450 percent increase compared to 2018.
