Endorsements Include Jessica Ramos for Senate District 13, Zellnor Myrie for Senate District 20, Robert Jackson for Senate District 31, Alessandra Biaggi for Senate District 34, and Melissa Sklarz for Assembly District 30

NEW YORK – Planned Parenthood NYC Votes PAC today proudly announced its first endorsements for the 2018 New York State election cycle. Endorsements will be rolled out leading up to the September 13 primary, and the general election in November.

“Planned Parenthood NYC Votes PAC is thrilled to endorse this slate of candidates to represent our communities. We need leaders in Albany who understand that sexual and reproductive freedom is a right, not a privilege, and who will fight to make New York the progressive leader it should be,” said Laura McQuade, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood NYC Votes PAC. “With the constant attacks from Washington, it has never been more urgent that lawmakers in Albany pass legislation that will protect New Yorkers’ access to abortion and affordable birth control.”

PPNYC Votes is proud to endorse Jessica Ramos for Senate District 13, Zellnor Myrie for Senate District 20, Robert Jackson for Senate District 31, Alessandra Biaggi for Senate District 34, and Melissa Sklarz for Assembly District 30.

Alessandra Biaggi, born and raised in Senate District 34, is challenging incumbent Jeff Klein and has championed sexual and reproductive health and rights throughout her campaign, demonstrating a robust and nuanced understanding of reproductive rights and justice.

Jessica Ramos, challenging incumbent Jose Peralta, was raised in Senate District 13 and has spoken at length about protecting sexual and reproductive rights in New York and called for a special session to pass the Reproductive Health Act.

Robert Jackson in Senate District 31, challenging incumbent Marisol Alcantara, is committed to fighting for economic justice, quality sex education, and access to birth control and abortion for all New Yorkers.

Zellnor Myrie in Senate District 20, challenging incumbent Jesse Hamilton, is committed to fighting for sexual and reproductive health and rights and makes thoughtful connections between health and intersecting issues including criminal justice reform, immigrant rights, and housing.

Melissa Sklarz in Assembly District 30 is challenging incumbent Brian Barnwell and has demonstrated a robust commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and has a clear understanding of the range of issues affecting her district, from housing to transportation to education. She would be the first transgender person elected to New York State’s legislature.
