Time for Republicans and leaders to denounce the violence, prosecute attackers, and hold anyone who aided the attacks accountable

St. Paul, MN— Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump for his involvement in the deadly attack at the U.S. Capitol. President Trump is now the first president in our history to be impeached twice. All eyes now turn to the U.S. Senate for action.

Statement from Sarah Stoesz, President of the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund:

“I applaud the U.S. House members who took the historic vote today to impeach President Trump for his role in the deadly attack last week in our nation’s Capitol. As Speaker Pelosi said, the attack was a violation of the sanctity of the people’s Capitol.

While this bipartisan effort instills hope that our leaders can come together at this crucial time, I am baffled that every Minnesota Republican congressperson voted against impeachment and they continue to spew lies about the outcome of the election. These members have failed to take responsibility for emboldening Trump and his supporters and in this failure, they are putting at risk the safety of our communities and the stability of our democracy.

We must call on all members of Congress to condemn the dangerous white nationalists who killed five people last week and have threatened more violence in the days ahead. We look forward to the next step in the impeachment process and encourage the U.S. Senate leadership to take swift and decisive action against President Trump."

Governor Kristi Noem introduced a law banning abortion after six weeks, before most people even know they are pregnant. This ban would do real harm to South Dakotans. Tell your legislators to keep abortion safe and legal.
