Here’s the deal - unintended pregnancy disproportionately impacts younger and lower income women.
Preventing unintended pregnancy can result in better health outcomes for parents and children, and provide people the opportunity to finish school or find work, which helps Vermont improve overall population health and break generational cycles of poverty.
So what are we doing? The Get Real VT campaign is facilitating the discussion about expanding comprehensive sex education in the state. Two Chittenden County school systems have expressed interest in the Get Real curriculum - Milton Town School District and the Chittenden East Supervisory Union.
We’re conducting outreach within those communities to help school administrators learn whether Get Real is a good fit for their constituents. And we’re seeing a lot of interest! Now through August, volunteers are engaging in online and community outreach (hey, maybe you’ll see us at the Farmers’ Market!) to talk with residents about Get Real, and inviting them to sign a petition in support of the program coming to their area.
