Governor’s FY24-25 proposed budget includes funding to keep abortion care accessible in Connecticut.

New Haven, CT (February 8, 2023) — Today, Governor Lamont released his FY24-25 budget proposal, which includes significant investments to keep abortion care accessible. Funding will help support critical provisions of the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act by reducing barriers for out-of-state patients seeking abortion in Connecticut.

Statement from Gretchen Raffa, Vice President, Public Policy, Advocacy, and Organizing, Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut:

“We thank Governor Lamont and his administration for prioritizing abortion access in Connecticut. In a post-Roe America, we’ve seen politicians and judges across the country conspiring to strip people of their freedoms and ban abortion outright — yet, Connecticut continues to lead the fight for reproductive freedom by protecting and expanding access to abortion care in our state.

“Last session, our champions in the General Assembly passed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, the most significant abortion rights legislation in a generation, and the Governor’s support of this critical policy helped ensure the bill became law. The investment included in his FY24-25 proposed budget will make it easier for anyone forced to travel to Connecticut from states where abortion is banned to access the essential, time-sensitive abortion care they need and deserve.

“We’ve made incredible progress in Connecticut, but our work is not done — we will continue to fight alongside our elected champions and our coalition partners until everyone, including residents in our state and those who have to travel here for care, has the ability and the resources to take control of their bodies, their health, and their lives.”
