Nevada - As several key races are called in the 2022 midterms, abortion rights supporters celebrate key wins in the U.S. Senate and Attorney General’s race while acknowledging some tough losses in the Governor’s race.

But one thing is clear, both in Nevada and nationwide: In an election with many competing issues for voters, abortion rights supporters and organizations pushed hard to educate voters about the true stakes of this election after the overturning of Roe v. Wade earlier this summer.

Statement from Lindsey Harmon, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada:

While this wasn’t the result we had hoped for in the Governor’s race, abortion rights activists and supporters made a huge difference this election cycle. Without their advocacy and support, we wouldn’t be able to point to key wins like ensuring that Adam Laxalt is not another extreme anti-abortion voice in the Senate and protecting the pro-reproductive rights majority in the Nevada legislature.

We are proud that while abortion rights activists and supporters were up against a century-long precedent of the party in power losing badly in the midterms, we were able to protect reproductive health champions like Catherine Cortez Masto and Attorney General Aaron Ford. We will also not forget that anti-abortion politicians like Joe Lombardo watered down their message on abortion and lied to voters to get elected and we will remember that as we move forward and will hold them accountable for any votes they take that endanger Nevadans' fundamental reproductive freedom.

No matter who is in office, Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada, our supporters, and our partners will continue to advocate for better, more equitable abortion policies. We know that our work doesn’t stop at protecting the right to abortion when access is still rife with inequities like cost, ability to travel for care, and time off. Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada remains committed to fighting for Nevadans no matter what.”
