Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest Congratulates Women’s Health Champion Manka Dhingra

REDMOND — In a tremendous victory for Washington state and health care, Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii (PPVNH) congratulates women’s health champion, Manka Dhingra to the Washington State Senate following tonight’s victory in the General Election. From the beginning, Dhingra remained a strong proponent for women’s rights, reproductive rights and access to health care. While access to reproductive health care is under direct threat at a national level, it is imperative we have people in charge who will take on the Trump administration and fight back against attacks on all communities. Planned Parenthood Votes engaged one-on-one with nearly 28,000 voters, making it clear that all people should have access to a full range of reproductive health care, no matter who you are or where you live.

Statement from Treasure Mackley, Political & Organizing Director, PPVNH:

“This is a resounding victory for the women and families of Washington state. For decades we have made progress when it comes to reproductive health and rights. Nationwide, the teen pregnancy rate and the unintended pregnancy rate are at historic lows. In King County, the teen pregnancy rate has fallen by 55 percent. We have an opportunity to build upon this success, especially now, especially when the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are relentless in “defunding” Planned Parenthood and rolling back women’s health and rights at every turn. We were proud to stand behind Manka throughout this campaign and we look forward to continuing our work together to ensure we lead the nation on strong equitable and just values. Washington state has a long-held commitment to reproductive freedom and equality, and by electing Manka to office we will protect reproductive health care and fight against discrimination.”
