Senate Bill 628 -- Pharmacy Access Act

Bill Text

This bill would allow people to access up to 12 months of birth control through a pharmacist. This bill would remove unnecessary barriers to access birth control by not requiring people to visit a doctor before accessing their birth control.

Last Action: Passed Senate 4/22/21; Heads to House

Senate Bill 1 -- Six Week Abortion Ban

Bill Text

This bill bans abortion when a fetal heartbeat can be detected. Because this may happen as early as six weeks gestation – before most people even realize they’re pregnant – this bill would effectively ban safe, legal abortion in South Carolina.

Last Action: Signed into law on 2/18/21; Federal Court blocked law from taking effect on 2/19/21

Senate Bill 531 --  Preventing trans students from participating in public school sports

Bill Text

This bill would prohibit transgender youth in middle and high school from participating in student athletics. Every student should be able to access the opportunities and lessons of school athletics. To categorically deny transgender students the freedom to play alongside their peers is completely at odds with lawmakers’ duties to care for and protect our youth.

Last Action: Sent to Education Committee on 2/9/21
