Prioritize Periods seeks to increase and improve access to free and quality period products through community organizing, partnerships, and legislation. We believe that everyone deserves access to period products regardless of age, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, or income. Prioritize Periods also works to remove gender and hygiene-based stigmas around periods and the people who have them.
What is period equity?
The idea that everyone, regardless of their identity or status in life, deserves access to affordable and safe period products without gender or hygiene-based stigmas.
How this issue impacts people:
Students are forced to miss school because they don’t have products
Parents are forced to choose between products or other necessities for their families
People without access are forced to use unsafe “makeshift” products to manage bleeding
People are forced to reuse single-use products
Burden falls on communities to donate to pantries, which cannot guarantee access
Incarcerated folks are not provided with or are denied access to sufficient products
