Raleigh, N.C. — Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic (PPVSAT), the separately incorporated political arm of the reproductive health nonprofit, announced today a slate of 81 endorsed candidates in North Carolina’s 2022 general election.
The organization's list of candidates includes endorsements for the North Carolina General Assembly and state Supreme Court. By Election Day, the Planned Parenthood Votes NC PAC will give $110,000 to endorsed candidates, a record amount of contributions for the PAC.
“The U.S. Supreme Court has paved the way for the state legislature to pass an all-out abortion ban in North Carolina as soon as January, and the current leadership in Raleigh has promised to do just that,” said Jillian Riley, Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic. “Right now, people across the South are looking to North Carolina as a critical access point for abortion care as our neighboring states have rushed to pass harmful abortion bans. We must elect candidates to the General Assembly who will protect access to abortion at the state level and ensure Governor Cooper has the necessary votes to sustain his veto of the all-out attacks on fundamental freedoms that are sure to come. Reproductive freedom, affordable health care, fair elections, and LGBTQ equality are all on the line this November.”
Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, has endorsed Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate. They have also endorsed Alma Adams, Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, Jeff Jackson, Valerie Foushee, Kathy Manning, Wiley Nickel, and Deborah Ross for U.S. House. The voter registration deadline for the general election is October 14, 2022. One-stop, in-person early voting begins October 20 and ends November 5. Election Day is Tuesday, November 8.
