Harrisburg, PA -- Today, Pennsylvanians re-elected Tom Wolf for governor — a bold champion for reproductive rights. As a Governor and incumbent, Wolf has never wavered in his support for women’s health care, including access to safe, legal abortion. He stood in contrast to his opponent, Scott Wagner — an anti-abortion extremist. Pennsylvania voters made a clear decision to re-elect a governor who would protect and expand access to health care.

Quote from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Votes:

Pennsylvanians have spoken. Reproductive rights, abortion access, and protections for pre-existing conditions are not up for grabs. Voters sent a clear signal to candidates like Scott Wagner — if you threaten our rights and freedoms, we will hold you accountable at the ballot box. Planned Parenthood Votes applauds the countless volunteers, coalition partners, and staff who worked around the clock informing Pennsylvanians to vote for Gov. Wolf.

Statement from Sari Stevens, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Votes:

Tom Wolf’s decisive victory ensures that abortion will remain legal in Pennsylvania and Planned Parenthood’s doors will remain open. Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Votes, along with our 450,000 supporters and volunteers, is thrilled that Gov. Tom Wolf was re-elected. He is a steadfast champion for women and reproductive health care, which Pennsylvanians repeatedly indicated was a priority in their voting decisions this election.

Reproductive health care was on the ballot for Pennsylvanians this November. With a major shift in the balance of the Supreme Court, abortion access was at risk across the state. Elected leaders in Pennsylvania now serve as the last line of defense against the Trump-Pence agenda for the state, which threatens Pennsylvanians’ health, rights, and freedoms.

Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood PA Votes made the difference in Pennsylvania elections this November, collectively investing more than $4.3 million to elect reproductive health champions — the largest ever in midterm election history:

  • Planned Parenthood PA Votes:

    • Knocked 320,000 doors knocked

    • Sent more than 50,000 phone calls and 50,000 text messages to date

    • Sent over 100,000 pieces of mail for legislative candidates across the state and ran a month’s worth of digital ads with over $250,000 invested

    • Ran a Latinx-focused voter education effort in the Lehigh Valley and Reading

Pennsylvanians turned out to re-elect Gov. Tom Wolf because his record shows he stands with women and their right to control their bodies, lives, and futures.

  • Wolf pledged to support “a woman’s constitutional right to make her own decisions about her body.”

  • Wolf urged the state legislature to pass a law requiring employers to cover birth control at no cost to employees.

  • Wolf granted health care to over 700,000 people by expanding Medicaid.
