Las Vegas, NV – Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed Jacky Rosen for the U.S. Senate. Nevada voters overwhelming support Planned Parenthood, and Congresswoman Jacky Rosen is committed to protecting women’s rights and access to reproductive health care. Rosen’s record proves that she trusts women and will stand against attacks on Planned Parenthood patients’ access to the full range of reproductive health care.

Rep. Jacky Rosen knows that the decision about whether and when to have children is between a woman and her doctor – not politicians in Washington. Rosen stands in stark contrast to Sen. Dean Heller, who has been a disaster for women. Sen. Heller has made several false and misleading statements around Planned Parenthood health centers, has voted repeatedly to block millions from accessing birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood health centers, and has a measly 18 percent rating from Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund:

We are proud to stand with Nevada’s Jacky Rosen and endorse her run for U.S. Senate. Rosen has been a progressive champion in the House and a tireless fighter for women’s health and reproductive rights. Rosen supports the life-saving care provided by Planned Parenthood health centers and believes that health care is a right, not a privilege. She stands strong for Planned Parenthood’s patients.

In contrast, Sen. Heller has been playing partisan politics with women’s health for his entire career. One year ago today, Heller promised his constituents that he would protect care for Planned Parenthood patients – only to betray them the very next chance he got. This November, Nevadans will vote him out of office.

Heller has voted to block patients from accessing care at Planned Parenthood health centers time and time again. Heller took multiple votes for Trumpcare, the worst bill for women in a generation, which would have ripped away health insurance from millions of Americans. Heller also co-sponsored the GOP’s dangerous abortion ban and lied about Planned Parenthood. Heller has been a disaster for women, and it’s time he is held accountable at the ballot box.

Nearly 14,000 patients rely on Planned Parenthood for health care in Nevada. Nevadans overwhelmingly support Planned Parenthood – it’s clear the Silver State deserves better than Dean Heller. Jacky Rosen will be a strong advocate in the U.S. Senate and will fight to protect access to reproductive health care no matter what

Statement from Jacky Rosen, Nevada Congresswoman and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate:

I’m thrilled to have Planned Parenthood Action Fund standing with us in our campaign for Nevada’s Senate seat in 2018. When I tell you I’ll fight to protect Planned Parenthood patients, you can count on me to actually keep that promise. For more than a decade, Sen. Heller has sided with Washington politicians to try to ‘defund’ Planned Parenthood health centers and attack women’s reproductive rights. Nevada women and their families deserve a senator who will be their champion – not a career politician who breaks promises and chooses partisan ideology at the expense of people’s access to affordable health care.

Dean Heller does not represent what Nevadans want. Nevada voters overwhelmingly supportPlanned Parenthood and are less likely to vote for politicians that support “defunding” Planned Parenthood.

  • Dean Heller voted to “defund” Planned Parenthood nine times, which would have blocked Nevadans and millions across the country from getting critical care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
  • Heller voted to allow states to block Planned Parenthood health centers from serving patients through the nation’s program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care, which four million people rely on each year.
  • Fifty-one percent of Nevadans were opposed to the GOP health care repeal plan last year, while less than a third of Nevadans supported it. Dean Heller ignored what his constituents wanted, and voted yes time and time again to pass the disastrous bill.
  • Heller has voted for multiple dangerous abortion bans that would put women’s health and lives at risk.

One year ago today, Dean Heller falsely stated that he would “protect Planned Parenthood.” Supporters and patients in Nevada have seen his voting record and know his lies. They spent much of 2017 calling into his office, marching, and showing up to events to make their voices heard. With Jacky Rosen in office, their voices will be heard. At a time when reproductive rights and access to health care are under attack, Jacky Rosen is the champion Nevada needs to replace Dean Heller in the U.S Senate.
