St. Paul, MN – May 16, 2018, Governor Mark Dayton has vetoed SF2849, which requires health care providers to offer patients the option of viewing an ultrasound prior to an abortion.
The following is a statement from Sarah Stoesz, President of the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund.
“Governor Dayton stood up for patients today. We commend him for vetoing SF 2849, which is completely unnecessary since women already have the option to view an ultrasound prior to an abortion. This bill is also based on a fundamental distrust of patients to make thoughtful, informed medical decisions, and a distrust of doctors to provide them with complete information. Governor Dayton showed once again that he believes patients deserve their physicians’ best medical judgment and counsel, not unnecessary mandates dictated by politicians. This veto is yet another example of Governor Dayton’s leadership, putting the health and rights of all Minnesotans before politics.”
