Welcome to “The Quickie”

Welcome to “The Quickie” — Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read “The Quickie'' online here.

In today’s Quickie: Planned Parenthood Votes, with local advocacy and political organizations, announce U.S. House targets and Fifth Circuit hears oral arguments.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD VOTES ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY TARGETS TO FLIP THE HOUSE: Yesterday Planned Parenthood Votes, with local advocacy and political organizations, announced its first round of targets for their 2024 independent expenditure program to flip the balance of the U.S. House of Representatives to a pro-abortion rights majority. Planned Parenthood Votes and local advocacy and political organizations will persuade and mobilize voters in key districts across the country through paid media and direct voter contact programs. Targets include Rep. Michelle Steel (CA-45), Rep. David Valadao (CA-22), and Rep. Mike Garcia (CA-27).

While out-of-touch politicians like Rep. Mike Garcia (CA-27), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1), and Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (NY-4) are hellbent on imposing a national abortion ban and robbing us of our personal freedoms, Planned Parenthood Votes and local advocacy and political organizations are fired up and ready to mobilize the American public to vote them out this November.

Paid for by Planned Parenthood Votes, 123 William St, NY NY 10038. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.

FIFTH CIRCUIT COURT HEARS ORAL ARGUMENTS IN PRE-TRIAL APPEAL ABOUT BASELESS CASE TRYING TO SHUT DOWN PLANNED PARENTHOOD: Yesterday morning, a three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit heard oral arguments in a pre-trial appeal concerning the politically motivated and meritless False Claims Act case brought against PPFA and three Texas Planned Parenthood affiliates.

As Susan Baker Manning, General Counsel of Planned Parenthood Federation of America explained, “More than 2 million people rely on Planned Parenthood non-profit health centers for high-quality, affordable care. This baseless case has a clear goal: to further a political agenda, block patients from getting sexual and reproductive health care, and shut down Planned Parenthood health centers.
