STATE OF ABORTION IN MINNESOTA
To Protect Abortion in November:
Tim Walz (D)
Gov. Walz trusts Minnesotans to make their own decisions about their bodies, their futures, and their families.
There will not be a ban on abortion as long as I’m governor of Minnesota.
Tim Walz, 5/4/2022
- Gov. Walz signed an executive order that protects abortion care for people who travel from other states. That means the Minnesota government won’t help politicians or police who try to extradite or punish patients seeking health services.
- Gov. Walz supports the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act, which would prevent politicians from interfering with a person’s right to make their own reproductive health care decisions, including abortion.
- Gov. Walz has repeatedly and consistently voted to protect and expand reproductive rights for Minnesotans and people across the country. As a U.S. representative, he voted against federal bills to: ban insurance coverage of abortion; ban abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy; and bar patients from using public health programs for preventive care at abortion providers.
Scott Jensen (R)
Jensen said he will try to ban abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. Now that he realizes his extreme views are out of sync with Minnesota voters, he’s trying to walk back his stance on abortion. But we’re not fooled: His record is clear about what he’d do if elected.
I would try to ban abortion. I think that we’re basically in a situation where we should be governed by pro-life.

- The majority of Minnesotans support legal abortion — but Jensen has repeatedly pledged to ban it.
- Jensen said, “As governor, I want Minnesota to be a pro-life state, so any legislation that would come to my desk, I would sign it to reduce or eliminate abortions.”
- If Jensen becomes governor, he’ll have the power to appoint judges to the state Supreme Court who could decide to overturn the right to an abortion in Minnesota. Remember, Donald Trump appointed three justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who decided to overrule Roe v. Wade and eliminate our right to abortion.
