Washington, DC –  During the midterm election cycle, Planned Parenthood Votes (PPV) and other Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations continue to release powerful ads in battleground states to communicate the high stakes for abortion access in both state and federal races. The campaign highlights the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the looming threat to reproductive freedom caused by the ruling. Lifting the stark contrasts between anti-abortion rights candidates and reproductive health champions is key to “Take Control,” Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ 2022 electoral program, as well as reminding voters generally that abortion rights are on the ballot this November.

Here’s a recap of some of the ads and videos released over the past week:

GEORGIA: PPV's ad series for Georgia’s gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races show the sharp distinctions between Gov. Brian Kemp and Herschel Walker — anti-abortion rights candidates — and proven reproductive health champions Stacey Abrams and U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Ads for the governor’s race focus on Gov. Brian Kemp’s six-week abortion ban, which took effect less than a month after Roe v. Wade was overturned, eliminating access to abortion care for millions of people in the state. The ads also lift up Stacey Abrams’ pledge to restore Georgians’ reproductive rights if elected governor.

The senate ads target candidate Herschel Walker’s call for a total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the patient. The ads also stress the need to re-elect Sen. Raphael Warnock to restore and protect abortion access in Georgia and throughout the country, especially in the wake of the  national abortion ban recently proposed by Congressmembers long hostile to reproductive health and rights.

ARIZONA: PPV recently released “Too Extreme,” a six-figure digital campaign focused on Arizona’s gubernatorial race. The 30-second ad highlights anti-abortion rights candidate Kari Lake’s support of Arizona’s near-total 1864 abortion ban, which has no exception for rape or incest and would imprison doctors who provide abortion care.

WISCONSIN: “Fight Back” is the first in a series of ads in PPV’s six-figure digital campaign focused on Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race between anti-abortion rights candidate Ron Johnson and reproductive health champion Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.

Abortion access is blocked in Wisconsin, where an 1849 law has effectively banned essential health care and has forced patients to flee their state for abortion. The ad reminds voters of Johnson’s callous disregard for the health and well-being of his constituents, who he says “can move” if they don’t like the abortion laws in their state.

FLORIDA: PPV released a new video telling Florida voters that they cannot trust Marco Rubio, who co-sponsored a national abortion ban just weeks after claiming that abortion is an issue best left to the states.

KANSAS: Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes PAC released "Contrast," part of a six-figure digital ad campaign focused on the race for Kansas governor.

In August, Kansas voters overwhelmingly decided to protect abortion access, rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have eliminated the right to an abortion. The ad reminds voters that Derek Schmidt believes Kansans’ rights are still up for discussion and that he is out of touch with Kansans’ values.

Separately, Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood Action Fund recently released “Your Voice,” a powerful video to rally and encourage voters to turn out at the polls and take control of their rights. The spot is produced by Girl Culture Films and directed by Karyn Kusama, an Emmy-nominated director best known for her work on the Showtime series “Yellowjackets” and films such as “Jennifer’s Body” and “Destroyer.” This is Kusama’s first-ever commercial spot. “Your Voice” is a chilling reminder that wrong-headed political attempts to rob our basic rights are on the line in this election, and a call to action to voters who are ready to reclaim power over their bodies and their lives.
