Laura Goodhue, Executive Director of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates:

“The stifling of democracy, dissent, and free speech displayed on the House floor today was eerily similar to what we experienced when this same legislature rammed through an unconstitutional and unpopular abortion ban earlier this year.

“The governor’s illegal, gerrymandered maps represent a direct attack on democracy and on Black representation. Today’s vote also underscores the blatant disregard lawmakers have shown for the millions of voters who passed the Fair Districts amendments, demanding this manipulation not be allowed to happen.

“We firmly stand with the legislators who heroically stood up to the bullying of Gov. DeSantis and his all-too-compliant allies. Floridians must come together and denounce this attack on democracy and on our Black communities.”
