Karen, Director of Legislative and Community Affairs at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, was recently honored as the 2022 Friend of Pride in the Coachella Valley. Karen Borja is an ally and champion for the LGBTQ+ community, a community organizer, and a fierce advocate for reproductive rights and health care access for everyone.

Growing up in Coachella, at just 16 years old, she joined family and community members to create a park network that demonstrated an investment in her community. She’s been transforming needs into community power ever since. Karen helped organize the second Eastern Coachella Valley Pride and previously served as a member of the Desert Healthcare District.

Karen is proud to advance the missions of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest and its Action Fund by directing strategy for and progressing the organizations’ public policy and legislative initiatives. Karen also oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, projects and initiatives that enhance relationships with the community and other stakeholders in Riverside County.

We are so proud to have Karen on our team and are grateful for her leadership and her meaningful work in the community.
