In celebration of Women’s History Month, the California State Legislature has a tradition of celebrating women from each Senate and Assembly district who are accomplishing amazing things in their communities. This year, Senate President Pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins honored our very own Leanna Augustus, External Affairs Operations Manager, as a Woman of the District for Senate District 39.

Leanna identifies as a Black, queer, reproductive justice advocate who is passionate about the intersections between racial justice, health care access, and the wellbeing of foster youth.

At Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, in addition to her work in the External Affairs department, Leanna serves as Chair of the Black Employee Resource Group (ERG) – a subdivision of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) work. The Black ERG promotes awareness within the organization and provides a safe space for members to connect and learn about issues facing the Black community. Leanna is also the Immediate Past Chair of the San Diego Coalition for Reproductive Justice

In her role as Operations Manager in our External Affairs Department, Leanna provides support for all six subdivisions in the department.

This year, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus celebrated Women Making Herstory with a ceremony at the Capitol on March 20. We are so proud to have Leanna on our team and are grateful for her leadership and her meaningful work in the community. Congratulations Leanna for this well earned honor!
