In March of 2024 Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest's Vice President of External Affairs, Vernita Gutierrez, was recognized with the Woman of Impact proclamation by San Diego County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer. This honor celebrates her unwavering dedication to ensuring access to comprehensive reproductive health care in the communities of San Diego and beyond, and comes at the heels of Vernita’s 35 year anniversary at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.

Of the proclamation and the recipients, Supervisor Lawson-Remer says:

“I honored Women of Impact who have been fearless in their commitment to helping our region tackle some of its biggest challenges, including protecting our environment, defending reproductive freedom, and helping the homeless.”

Recipient of several awards throughout her lengthy career – including the San Diego Coalition for Reproductive Justice Defender of Choice Award and Women of CA Senate District 39 in 2019 – Vernita has also served on several advisory groups and nonprofit boards. Currently, she serves on The San Diego LGBT Community Center Board of Directors and is a Vice Chair on the San Diego County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.

We are grateful for Vernita’s visionary leadership, and are proud to work alongside her.
