Palm Springs Pride 2023

Palm Springs Pride took place last November 2023; the theme was Drag Now, Drag Forever.

Our fantastic Action Fund volunteers ran a booth on Saturday, November 4, 2023, educating attendees about our work and recruiting new volunteers. They also joined the Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest contingent marching in the Pride Parade.

At Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest, we know that LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive rights are inexorably linked – both about the right to bodily autonomy and self-determination. We were proud to be a part of Palm Springs Pride this year, for more photos from the event, click here

Intersex Awareness Movie Night

On November 17, 2023, PPPSW and PPAFPSW held a film screening of the documentary “Every Body” – a film chronicling the true story of three intersex activists.

Intersex is an umbrella term for people who were born with anatomic or genetic characteristics that don’t match or fit into the typical male-female binary. Being intersex is a naturally occurring variation in humans, and it isn’t a medical problem. Activism by and for intersex people is growing, and demanding changes in our culture and how intersex people are viewed and treated. Through “Every Body” film writer and director Julie Cohen encourages people to understand that intersex people deserve dignity, respect and access to care – that intersex rights, like reproductive rights, are basic human rights.

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest  is proud to serve intersex patients by providing compassionate and inclusive care – for every body. Learn more about advocating for intersex rights at voteforchoice.org/protectintersexrights.

Riverside Student Safety Coalition

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest and community partners are working together to protect LGBTQ+ students across Riverside County, and last Fall 2023 spearheaded the formation of the Riverside County LGBTQ+ Safety Coalition, which believes schools should be safe spaces for learning regardless of students’ sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

All youth deserve affirming and inclusive spaces to learn, thrive, and be themselves – free from harmful anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policies that violate their rights and negatively impact their mental health.

Student Safety Coalition Candidate Forum:

On February 8th from 6:00pm-7:30pm, the LGBTQ+ Student Safety Coalition is hosting a Riverside County Board of Education Candidate Forum. This forum will provide an opportunity to hear from candidates on various topics, including how they will support LGBTQ+ students in the county. San Diego’s District 4 Gets A New County Supervisor

On Tuesday, December 5, 2023 Monica Montgomery Steppe was sworn into office after a Special Election was held for residents of San Diego County District 4.

County Supervisors make important decisions that impact a community’s well-being every day. San Diego County Supervisors are in charge of a 8.1 billion dollar budget funded by your tax dollars. This budget impacts access to health care, affordable housing, parks, libraries, and other public services.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest was proud to endorse Monica Montgomery Steppe, a true champion of reproductive rights, access to sexual and reproductive health care, and comprehensive sex ed. Congratulations to Supervisor-Elect Montgomery Steppe!

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest Supports San Diego Coalition for Reproductive Justice Annual Post-Roe Event

On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the Coalition for Reproductive Justice (CRJ) hosted its annual fundraiser at the Mingei International Museum. The theme was Empowerment in Action: Harnessing Community Power for Positive Change; a celebration of community resilience and perseverance in a post-Roe era, with an emphasis on collective liberation from all oppressive systems.

The event brought together artists, speakers and awardees that have leveraged their community to bring about persisting support and change.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest is thrilled to share that our newest Planned Parenthood Generation Action (PPGA) chapter at College of the Desert, was presented with the 2024 Audre Lorde Emerging Leader Award at this event. We are incredibly proud of these young leaders who in just four short months have become formidable members of this national network of young activists and voices for reproductive health and rights on their college campus!

Coachella Valley Women’s March

The Coachella Valley Women’s March (CVWM) will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Veterans Park in Coachella from 10am-2pm. The mission of Women’s March is to harness the power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March is committed to dismantling systems of oppression through nonviolent resistance and building inclusive structures guided by self-determination, dignity and respect.

CVWM also seeks to shed light on our local community issues, such as mental health, LGBTQ+, immigration, women's health, domestic violence, missing and murdered Indigenous women, education, and more.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest’s very own Director of Legislative & Community Affairs, Karen Borja, has been invited as the keynote speaker. PPAFPSW volunteers and staff will also table at the event

We are proud to be partners and allies in this movement, on this and every year
