San Diego, CA - The Gubernatorial Recall Election took place on Tuesday, September 14th. The results show that Governor Gavin Newsom has definitively won the recall attempt and will remain the Governor of California.

Below is a statement from Darrah DiGiorgio Johnson, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest:

“We are grateful that Californians came out in strong opposition to this partisan recall and that California has elected to keep a strong champion for reproductive rights and health care access in office. The anti-choice extremists behind the recall sought to take California backwards on hard-won progress, but voters across the state came out against these dangerous efforts.

At a time when we are facing unprecedented threats to abortion access and rights in decades, like the Texas 6-week abortion ban, it is more important than ever for California to lead the way as a reproductive freedom state. Now that the recall election is behind us, we can move forward with a strong champion for reproductive rights and access to health care in office. We look forward to continuing to work with Governor Newsom, his administration, legislative leaders and other allied organizations to fight for health equity and reproductive freedom for all.”
