Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Advocates for DC, Maryland & NoVa (PPADMV) celebrates with our partners at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia as both the Virginia Senate and Virginia House have elected pro-reproductive health majorities. PPAV PAC-endorsed candidates campaigned on blocking any attempts to ban abortion in Virginia, and overwhelmingly won their races. These election results are a critical first step toward future protections for reproductive freedom.

Statement from Dr. Laura Meyers, Co-CEO of PPADMV:

“Election after election across this country has confirmed that Americans overwhelmingly support access to abortion. This week, Virginia voters again spoke out for protecting abortion rights. We are proud to be a champion for access to this essential health care in Virginia as well as in Maryland and Washington, DC.”

Statement from Karen Nelson, Co-CEO of PPADMV:

“I cannot say how proud I am that Virginia voters came out to push back anti-abortion politicians. We knew what would happen if this election turned out differently. Gov. Youngkin laid his cards on the table about banning abortion as soon as he had enough power, and so this turn is a welcome relief. Virginia stays as the southernmost state without bans, and a stronghold for bodily autonomy in the south.”

PPADMV supported work by PPAV to reach thousands of voters through phone banking and door-to-door canvassing leading up to this election.
