The U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. This has eliminated the federal right to abortion and endangered the health of millions of Americans by putting abortion rights in the hands of state legislatures.
Abortion is still legal in Nebraska today, but the Court’s ruling strikes a shattering blow to the right to access abortion in the United States.
This year, Nebraska politicians obsessed with banning abortion proposed a trigger law that would ban abortion under any circumstance if federal protections fall. Thanks to the advocacy of our supporters and key champions in the legislature we were able to defeat this proposed bill.
They will try to ban abortion again. Governor Pete Ricketts has vowed to call a special session to ban all abortions in Nebraska—even in cases of rape and incest. This would have a devastating impact on all Nebraskans.
We are ready. We must stand together and claim our power to make clear that Nebraskans need abortion access. We are united in our fight to protect safe, legal abortion in our state.
Here are 3 ways you can fight back now:
1. Call
Call your senator and tell them to oppose any effort to ban abortion in Nebraska. Find your senator and their contact information here.
2. Vote
The right to control our own bodies could very well be decided by who wins this election. Be prepared to elect leaders who will stand up for reproductive rights and justice up and down the ballot. Learn who's endorsed by Planned Parenthood and make your plan to vote.
3. Pledge
Pledge to fight for abortion access. When you pledge, you’ll be the first to get email alerts for rallies and other upcoming events, the latest news about reproductive rights in Nebraska, and action items as we fight to protect sexual and reproductive health care in our state.
Thank you for being in this fight during this crucial moment. United, we will make our voices heard and protect abortion rights in our state.
