OMAHA, NEBRASKA— Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden claimed victory Saturday over incumbent President Donald Trump, paving the way for the country to begin rebuilding reproductive health care and freedoms at the federal level.
President-elect Biden has a long career of fighting for health care and reproductive rights. He led the effort to create the Affordable Care Act, spearheaded the Violence Against Women Act, and strongly supports safe, legal abortion. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, as the first woman of color to hold the office, is a champion for women’s health, health care equity and LGBTQ+ rights.
“Today’s results are repudiation of an administration that has failed miserably to lead this country and has endangered the health of millions of Americans with its reckless policies,” said Andi Curry Grubb, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska. “We can finally begin to heal as a nation and rebuild from the destruction of the past four years, including to reproductive rights and access to health care. For the first time in a while, we are filled with the hope and optimism to move this country and our state forward.”
