"These results prove what we’ve known all along—Nebraskans want leaders who stand for social justice and health care, and that when you partner with Planned Parenthood, you win."

Lincoln voters showed their support at the polls Tuesday for candidates who will protect sexual and reproductive freedom and stand for public health.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska endorsed and supported candidates Sändra Washington, Bennie Shobe, and Tom Beckius, who swept the Lincoln City Council election. Voters cast their ballot for progress in City Council races, overwhelmingly voting for pro-sexual and reproductive health candidates who have pledged to support policies that will move the city forward.

The election results will strengthen Lincoln residents’ access to critical health care, support for strong public health systems, and dedication to improving racial equity, plus usher more diverse officials into city leadership.

"Lincoln sent a clear message on Tuesday that they want health care champions in office," said Meg Mikolajczyk Deputy Director & Legal Counsel of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska. "These results prove what we’ve known all along—Nebraskans want leaders who stand for social justice and health care, and that when you partner with Planned Parenthood, you win."

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Nebraska expanded their electoral program this election cycle to educate more voters and elect candidates who stand for public health and reproductive freedom.  Virtual organizing efforts included1,700 postcards sent to voters and 300 volunteer hours, as well as 2,800 calls to Lincoln voters. PPAN also ran an aggressive paid digital campaign supporting endorsed candidates. Paid digital ads reached 18,914 people, for a total of 179,326 impressions, plus a total of 11,500 emails to PPAN supporters.
