Abortion Trigger Ban SB 123 Hearing

Columbus, Ohio – The Trigger Ban, Senate Bill 123, is having its first hearing this morning. If passed, the Trigger Ban would immediately ban all abortion in Ohio if Roe v Wade is struck down. This is an increasingly likely scenario with the Supreme Court hearing its first case on abortion since the new conservatively packed court.

Yesterday, we joined our partners and over a hundred protesters to stand up against this latest attack and fight for a future where reproductive freedom isn’t just a vision, but a reality for all.

Statement from Lauren Blauvelt-Copelin, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Advocacy for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio:

Ohio Republicans have been chipping away at our abortion rights for the last decade. They are now seizing the opportunity to eliminate it altogether.

Anti-abortion organizations have fought to overturn Roe v Wade by packing federal courts with anti-abortion judges, passing unconstitutional legislation, spreading misinformation, imposing arbitrary restrictions, and waging one legal battle after another. The Trigger Ban is the latest attack in an ideological and pollical campaign against Ohioan’s bodily autonomy.”

The polling makes clear that Ohioans want abortion to be a safe and legal experience for patients—80% of Americans do not want to see Roe v Wade overturned. Politicians who try to block access to abortion are not only on the wrong side of reproductive freedom. They are also on the wrong side of public opinion.
