Cordray Boldly Stands up for Reproductive Rights and Health Care at Planned Parenthood Health Centers in Last Debate
Cleveland, OH - Tonight, Rich Cordray and Mike DeWine finished the last of a series of debates, answering the questions Ohioans deserve to hear -- where their candidates stand on health care and reproductive rights. It is clear Cordray is the champion Ohio women need. Cordray has unapologetically stood up for a woman’s right to access safe, legal abortion. He’s committed to protecting people with pre-existing conditions. And when it comes to Medicaid expansion, Cordray knows just how dangerous DeWine’s plans to enforce work requirements will be for women and families.
DeWine’s stance on health care and reproductive rights couldn’t be more stark in contrast and is too extreme for Ohio. He has promised to sign a law that would ban abortion before most women know they’re pregnant. Despite campaign rhetoric, DeWine has backed a lawsuit that would remove protections for people with pre-existing conditions. With the shift in the balance of the Supreme Court, we must ensure Ohioans have a backstop to the Trump-Pence agenda, which DeWine has repeatedly pushed as attorney general.
Statement from Lauren Blauvelt, Campaign Director, Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio:
“In the last debate, it was made clear to Ohio voters who will stand up for reproductive rights, health care, and access to essential services at Planned Parenthood health centers. When elected as Ohio’s next Governor, Richard Cordray will protect reproductive rights and veto any anti-abortion bills that across his desk.
In contrast, Mike DeWine wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars defending unconstitutional abortion bans and launched a baseless attack on Planned Parenthood as Ohio’s attorney general. He pledged to sign a six-week abortion ban, which is before most people know they are pregnant. Mike DeWine is an extreme, anti-abortion, politician who’s over 40 years in office end this November.
With Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court this weekend, Ohio has never needed a reproductive rights champion in the governor’s mansion more. It’s critical we elect Richard Cordray because he trusts Ohioans to make their own health care decisions and he will boldly protect access to reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion, at Planned Parenthood health centers.”
