Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio Responds to Election Results, Looks Ahead to Lame Duck Session

COLUMBUS, OH — Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio issues the following statement in response to unofficial results in the November 3rd, 2020 general election:

Statement from Iris E. Harvey, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio:

“The Biden-Harris victory represents a new dawn for our country and a repudiation of the Trump agenda. Unfortunately Ohio did not vote as we had hoped, but there were bright spots – like a win for Jennifer Brunner in her race for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court, and victories by many of our endorsed candidates. In the end, we faced obstacles that could not be overcome, including an opposition that banked on voter suppression and expanded their General Assembly majority on the back of decades of partisan gerrymandering.

We now turn our attention to the next fight to protect abortion access in Ohio: our upcoming “lame duck” legislative session. Right now, there are bills moving through the Ohio General Assembly that threaten reproductive health and freedom, including a “trigger ban” that would completely ban abortion in the event Roe v. Wade is overturned. This struggle isn’t over, and I promise we’ll do whatever it takes to ensure Planned Parenthood’s doors remain open.”
