Planned Parenthood Commits to Continuing to Serve Ohio Communities
Statement from Iris E. Harvey, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio:
“With a Mike DeWine victory, we know who we are up against. He has made his positions clear on a number of issues, including banning abortion, “defunding” Planned Parenthood, and limiting health care access for thousands of Ohioans. Because DeWine has been so clear, we are prepared for what is coming next. We have been working for eight years to limit the harmful effects from the governor’s office.
“While we did not win the governor’s race, we must recognize and celebrate the victories of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio endorsed candidates tonight in Ohio, including Sherrod Brown, Joyce Beatty, and Beth Liston to name a few who won their races. These reproductive rights champions will stand with us in the U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, and Ohio General Assembly who won their races. These reproductive rights champions will stand with us in the Ohio General Assembly, the United States Congress, and the United States Senate proudly declaring their unwavering support for access to health care and sex education in Ohio.
“If the past two years have shown us anything, it’s that Planned Parenthood will continue to serve those communities in Ohio who need them most. With the election of Mike DeWine as governor-elect, we know the fight ahead will get messy, and we will celebrate our successes while also mourning our defeats. Quitting, however, is not an option. Too many individuals rely on Planned Parenthood services – many without anywhere else to turn – and we must stand up for them!”
Statement from Lauren Blauvelt-Copelin, Campaign Director, Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio:
“I want to thank all of our Planned Parenthood Votes Ohio supporters who knocked on doors, made phone calls, talked with their friends and family, and generously donated over the past few months. We will need your strength as we continue to stand up for reproductive health care and sex education in Ohio. The results may not have been what we were hoping for, but Planned Parenthood’s doors will stay open because of your commitment.”
