A person’s ability to make real decisions about their pregnancy and parenting is directly connected to whether they have the access, resources, and power necessary to live a self-determined life. At Planned Parenthood, we believe that no matter the gender, race, zip code, sexual orientation, or occupation, all people should be able to live their most healthy, authentic lives make decisions about their future with dignity and with the resources needed to thrive. We support policies that:

  • Support and protect bodily autonomy, including gender affirming care for LGBTQ+ individuals;
  • Allow all people to exercise all their human rights without fear, discrimination, or retaliation.
  • Address issues that impair a person’s ability to control their own reproductive life due to systemic poverty, racism, discrimination, inadequate education, or lack of health care.
  • Address domestic and sexual violence, provide adequate wages, and foster workplace culture that support a family.

Reproductive Justice, a term invented in 1994 by the Black Women’s Caucus, is defined as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. The women who developed this term recognized that the white feminist movement for reproductive rights could not and did not defend the needs of women of color and other marginalized women and transgender people. Although Planned Parenthood is not officially defined as a reproductive justice organization, we advocate for reproductive justice for all people and support removing barriers that stand in the way of a person’s ability to access reproductive health care, which has always been and continues to be central to the Planned Parenthood mission.

We support candidates who apply an equity lens to policy and regulatory work. The PPNHAF PAC reserves the right to retract endorsements if a candidate demonstrates behavior that lacks commitment to our shared equity goals. PPNHAF/PPNHAF PAC does not tolerate any form of discrimination, including but not limited to race, gender, ability, religion, citizenship status, or sexuality. PPNHAF PAC believes we must hold our elected officials to these high standards in order to fulfill our mission.
